Communications Internship, The Making - Basingstoke, Hampshire

The Making, the craft development agency for the South East, is seeking enthusiastic, confident and committed individuals for internships to assist with fundraising for, and the promotion and administration of The Making’s education and events programme.  We are able to offer a limited travel budget for the duration of the internships (up to £20 per day).

Time-scale:  2 Placement opportunities: July -September 2008 2 days a week and October 2008– March 2009 1-2 days a week

These placements would suit individuals who wish to gain hands-on experience of working in a small arts organisation.  They would be especially interesting for those who eventually wish to work in fundraising, arts promotion or events management.

The Making is the only organisation the South East to specialise in participatory craft education. The interns will assist with the fundraising, promotion and delivery of ‘Theatre of Making’ education programmes and events.  (The next major events will take place as part of  ‘Live and Kicking’ Festival at Gosport on 29 July 2008, at ‘Balloons over Basingstoke’ Festival 1,2,3 August 2008 and at De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill on 15 February 2009.)  They will also assist with a major advocacy and fundraising campaign for The Making.

The successful candidates will have:

  • An interest in arts marketing and events management
  • A good telephone manner
  • Competence in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Experience of using Adobe Photoshop and contact management systems would be an advantage

The interns will be supported by The Making’s staff.
